How to minimise dust on wood flooring jobs
When carrying out a floor sanding and refinishing job it is important to control the amount of dust created. Tiny bits of wood dust won’t just irritate and annoy; they’ll affect the finish that you are able to achieve too. Follow these steps to control the dust in your property.
Don't hope for miracles
You will never be able to keep the property 100% dust free and the dust will continue to settle long after you are finished with the job. The best you can hope to achieve with dust management is minimising contamination.
Use protection
Protection is the best approach to keeping the dust out of the rest of the house. Plastic is cheap and effective at sealing the doorways to keep the dust in and keep contaminants from the outside world from getting in too. Use plastic liberally to protect everything that isn’t being sanded. Light fixtures, plugs and fireplaces should all be blocked off along with doorways and windows.
Use the right sander
The sander you choose for the job will make a big difference to the mess created in the first place. Keep your sander in good condition and be sure to keep the collection bag clean. Remember that they may only appear to be half-full when they are actually full and starting to underperform. Regular emptying will ensure that less dust is pumped into the room.
Vac attack
The vacuum will be your number one weapon in sucking up the dust. Get it out regularly and give the room a once-over, even when it looks relatively clean. Dust will constantly be settling and the sooner you can get it the less likely it is to be disturbed and go travelling again.
Protect your lungs
While cleaning the property is important, it is also vitally important that you protect your lungs. Small particles of wood can cause significant issues in your lungs if you inhale them, so be sure to wear a facemask at all times and not just when using the sanding machines.
Bring in a specialist
For the best quality finish with wood flooring and the best dust management, call in the specialists. Dust free sanders and the right vacuum equipment enable the pros to achieve much greater dust control. To get a quote from a specialist contact us now.
